In the context of horror mixed with excitement and suspense, the events revolve around four students invited by their professor to the haunted mansion in order to study the effect of sleep deprivation for a week on them and do some studies about sleep. And also some very popular horror movies.

This sequel to a box-office sleeper hit that spoofed teen slasher flicks takes its cues from haunted house and possession films, particularly The Haunting (1999) and The Exorcist (1973). Although many of the first film's main characters were homicide victims, Marlon Wayans, Shawn Wayans, and Anna Faris return anyway to "re-possess" their roles for this follow-up in which four students are invited by their professor (Tim Curry) to his haunted mansion, Hell House, for a weekend sleep-deprivation study. Providing the sleep deprivation, however, is a series of murderous, supernatural goings-on.

Scary Movie 2 co-stars Tori Spelling, Andy Richter, Christopher Masterson, Kathleen Robertson, James Woods, Chris Elliott, and Natasha Lyonne.

Mike Myers as Shrek/Blind Mouse
Eddie Murphy as Donkey
Cameron Diaz as Princess Fiona
John Lithgow as Lord Farquaad
Vincent Cassel as Monsieur Hood
Chris Miller as Geppetto/Magic Mirror

Once upon a time, in a far away swamp, there lived an ornery ogre named Shrek whose precious solitude is suddenly shattered by an invasion of annoying fairy tale characters. There are blind mice in his food, a big, bad wolf in his bed, three little homeless pigs and more, all banished from their kingdom by the evil Lord Farquaad. Determined to save their home--not to mention his own--Shrek cuts a deal with Farquaad and sets out to rescue the beautiful Princess Fiona to be Farquaad's bride. Accompanying him on his mission is wisecracking Donkey, who will do anything for Shrek... except shut up. Rescuing the Princess from a fire-breathing dragon may prove the least of their problems when the deep, dark secret she has been keeping is revealed.

Shrek is a 2001 American computer-animated comedy film loosely based on the 1990 fairytale picture book of the same name by William Steig. Directed by Andrew Adamson and Vicky Jenson in their directorial debuts, it stars Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, Cameron Diaz, and John Lithgow as the voices of the lead characters. The film parodies other films adapted from fairy tale storylines, primarily aimed at animated Disney films. In the story, an ogre called Shrek (Myers) finds his swamp overrun by fairy tale creatures who have been banished by the corrupt Lord Farquaad (Lithgow) aspiring to be king. Shrek makes a deal with Farquaad to regain control of his swamp in return for rescuing Princess Fiona (Diaz), whom Farquaad intends to marry. With the help of Donkey (Murphy), Shrek embarks on his quest but soon falls in love with the princess, who is hiding a secret that will change his life forever.

The rights to Steig's book were purchased by Steven Spielberg in 1991. He originally planned to produce a traditionally-animated film based on the book, but John H. Williams convinced him to bring the film to the newly-founded DreamWorks in 1994. Jeffrey Katzenberg began active development of the film in 1995 immediately following the studio's purchase of the rights from Spielberg. Chris Farley was originally cast as the voice for the title character, recording nearly all of the required dialogue. After Farley died in 1997 before the work was finished, Mike Myers stepped in to voice the character, which was changed to a Scottish accent in the process. The film was intended to be motion-captured, but after poor results, the studio decided to hire Pacific Data Images to complete the final computer animation.

Shrek premiered at the 2001 Cannes Film Festival, where it competed for the Palme d'Or, making it the first animated film since Disney's Peter Pan (1953) to receive that honor. It was widely praised as an animated film that featured adult-oriented humor and themes, while catering to children at the same time. The film was theatrically released in the United States on May 18, 2001, and grossed $484.4 million worldwide against production budget of $60 million. Shrek won the first ever Academy Award for Best Animated Feature and was also nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay. It also earned six award nominations from the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA), ultimately winning Best Adapted Screenplay. The film's success helped establish DreamWorks Animation as a prime competitor to Pixar in feature film computer animation, and three sequels were released—Shrek 2 (2004), Shrek the Third (2007), and Shrek Forever After (2010)—along with two holiday specials, a spin-off film, and a stage musical that kickstarted the Shrek franchise. Although plans for a fifth film were canceled prior to the fourth film's release, the project was revived in 2016 and has since stalled, with production and a potential release date getting pushed back.

Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone

The best-selling novel by J.K. Rowling (titled Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone in England, as was this film adaptation) becomes this hotly anticipated fantasy adventure from Chris Columbus, the winner of a high-stakes search for a director to bring the first in a hoped-for franchise of Potter films to the screen by Warner Bros. Upon his 11th birthday, Harry Potter (Daniel Radcliffe), who lives in misery with an aunt and uncle that don't want him, learns from a giant named Hagrid (Robbie Coltrane) that he is the orphaned son of powerful wizards.

Harry is offered a place at prestigious Hogwarts, a boarding school for wizards that exists in a realm of magic and fantasy outside the dreary existence of normal humans or "Muggles." At Hogwarts, Harry quickly makes new friends and begins piecing together the mystery of his parents' deaths, which appear not to have been accidental after all. The film features alternate-version scenes for every mention of the titular rock. Richard Harris, Alan Rickman, Maggie Smith, John Cleese, and Fiona Shaw co-star. ~ Karl Williams

The Fast and the Furious 2001

A magazine article about real-life car racing gangs for Vibe becomes this fast-paced automotive thriller from director Rob Cohen. Paul Walker stars as Brian O'Conner, a youthful FBI agent investigating a series of hijackings by going undercover with a street gang led by charismatic Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel).

Caught up in Toretto's world of gang conflict that is resolved in late-night car races, Spindler starts to sympathize with his chief suspect and falls in love with Toretto's younger sister Mia (Jordana Brewster). In the meantime, Spindler initially suspects the wrong gang of complicity in the crimes he's probing, while Toretto remains involved in a forbidden romance, à la Romeo and Juliet
.(with his girlfriend Letty (Michelle Rodriguez

You are now about to witness the strength of street racing. An opening line by Dr. Dre was about the only thing missing from The Fast and The Furious, the kickoff to one of Hollywood’s most surprising and popular franchises ever. There’s not a lot of properties that reach seven films and the 2001 original was a spectacular start.

Inspired by Ken Li’s article Racing Master X, Director Rob Cohen takes viewers on a comprehensive tour of this world catering to adrenaline junkies filled with mayhem, money, hot women and faster cars. Cohen was absolutely the right choice for the film as he got everything that made this realm so captivating for teens and thrill seekers

Brian O’Connor (Paul Walker) wants to get into the street racing scene and thinks he’s found his ticket in with
(Dominic Toretto (Vin .Diesel
the undisputed top dog of the circuit

Dom runs a deli and mechanic shop staffed with his team — Letty (Michelle Rodriguez in her most perfectly cast role); the hothead Vince (Matt Schulze); the laid back Leon (Johnny Strong) and engineer Jessie (Chad Lindberg) — which he treats more like his family instead of a crew.

It’s easy to see why Diesel would go on to become one of the hottest rising stars after his performance here as he gives Dom a warmth that belies his brawny physical stature. And while some of the other cast members seem to very much acting, Diesel makes Dom’s lines such as “I live life a quarter mile at a time. For those 10 seconds I’m free” sound genuine.

Brian is hiding his true agenda, which has more to do with learning who is behind a series of daring highway truck robberies than winning a race. But as Brian gets close with Dom’s crew and sparks a relationship with Dom’s sister, Mia (Jordana Brewster), he starts questioning his loyalties.

As with Diesel, Walker found his iconic role here and he was the perfect Luke Skywalker to Diesel’s Han Solo. The film boasted a refreshingly diverse cast with racing crews led by Rick Yune and Noel Gugliemi that had no need for outdated stereotypes and preconceived notions of what a young hip cast should look like in what would become another trademark of the franchise.

It’s easy to get drawn in by the attractive cast and cars and simply write the film off as a 2000 update to Point Break, but the script is less an undercover cop movie and one that explores the racer lifestyle community.

Screenwriters Gary Scott Thompson, Erik Bergquist and David Ayer establish well-developed characters, but also weave a compelling mystery regarding the identity of the trucker thieves.

Although the film featured racing cars, Cohen stages scenes like westerns with the car caravans filing in like a posse and Dom as the sheriff taking down anyone attempting to take him down. Cohen keeps the racing scenes visually coherent while keeping the action realistic and grounded.

While the series initially stumbled in subsequent sequels, the foundation for what the franchise would find its biggest success — action, crazy racing stunts and the strength of the family bond — was already laid with the first installment.

As far as a franchise starter, you’d be hard pressed to find a better one. Despite sequels that benefit greatly from cast additions to fully flesh out Dom’s family, ‘The Fast and The Furious’ still holds up very well and will have viewers stoked to kick off a ‘Furious’
marathon

Lara Croft: Tomb Raider

2001 Watch and download a movie Lara Croft: Tomb Raider

A popular video game comes to the screen with this big-budget adventure starring Angelina Jolie as a buxom heroine recalling equal parts Indiana Jones and James Bond. Jolie is Lara Croft, a proper British aristocrat groomed at schools for the children of the elite. Croft leads a double life, however, as an acquirer of lost antiquities through questionable means, highly trained in combat skills with the help of a robotic opponent called Simon. Despite her exciting profession and a life of wealth and breeding, Lara pines for her father, Lord Croft (Jon Voight), whose passing left her orphaned. On the eve of a celestial event that will also mark the anniversary of Lord Croft's death, Lara comes up against an ancient organization called the Illuminati, represented by the sinister Powell (Iain Glen), who's in pursuit of an ancient relic with power over time and even death itself

With the aid of her high-tech support team, Lara travels to some exotic locales in search of the artifact, including a foray into a decrepit Asian temple guarded by lethal stone apes and other creatures that spring to life. Filmed at various locations in Great Britain as well as Iceland and the Angkor Wat temples of Cambodia, Tomb Raider co-stars Noah Taylor, Chris Barrie, Daniel Craig, Rachel Appleton, Leslie Phillips, Mark Collie, and Julian Rhind-Tutt. ~ Karl Williams, Rovi

CRITIC REVIEWS FOR LARA CROFT - TOMB RAIDER

Critics Consensus

Angelina Jolie is perfect for the role of Lara Croft, but even she can't save the movie from a senseless plot and action sequences with no emotional impact.

Stephen Hunter

Novelist. essayist. film critic

Loud, banal, empty, frenzied, plasticized, flavorless, drab, violent in a bloodless way and sexy in a sexless way.

Peter Travers

In the department of numbing ineptitude, the pacing runs a neck-and-neck race with the dialogue.

Lara Croft: Tomb Raider is incredibly silly. So silly in fact, that you just have to respect it.

Rob Gonsalves

Even by video-game-movie standards, this is an arrogantly, almost smugly empty and incoherent mess.
